The rapid development of technology since COVID has drastically changed our lifestyle. From increased phone usage to the recent trend of working from home, they increase the chance of one developing bad postural habits and could lead to neck, shoulder, and back pain. As the bad posture builds up, it could create different problems that would affect one’s daily routine, including stiffened joint or decreased muscle endurance.
Hence, postural realignment is recommended for those who are suffering from chronic pain. It will greatly benefit one through improving their structure and building good daily habits to reduce and prevent any postural pain.
Anyone and everyone can always benefit from postural realignment. Neck, shoulder, and back pain commonly occurs within the urban population, which could build up to a debilitating level. Postural realignment could help prevent that pain from building up in this case. Athletes, on the other hand, could use postural realignment to learn about specific muscle weaknesses, and to improve that specific area that could enhance their performance.
Different postural problems include:
Round Shoulder:
- This creates a hunched position when shoulders lean forward from body’s natural alignment. Back muscles are stretched and pectoral muscles are tightened.
Poking Chin:
- This is an anterior shift of your head forward with chin poking out. Muscle imbalance can result from this posture.
Scoliosis:
- This is a sideway curvature of spine. Treatment options will largely depend on the severity of the curvature.
Lordosis (Sway back):
- This would result in excessive anterior tilt of the pelvis. Hip flexors are tightened in this situation, also causing lumbar spine to be compressed.
Kyphosis (hunchback):
- This is an exaggeration of outward curve in spine. Muscle imbalance can result from this posture.
Leg length discrepancies:
- This is a difference in the measurement of two leg lengths, specifically bone lengths. Hip or knee pain can be caused.
General benefits of postural realignment include implementing good posture habits, reducing chronic pain, improving muscle strength and endurance, and loosening/strengthening stiff joints.
The initial postural assessment focuses on seeing your body as a whole, assessing your body parts in relation to one another. Common assessments focus on your spinal curves and range of motion of major joints in different planes. We will also be examining details such as center of pressure, body rotation, stance width etc.
After the postural assessment, we will provide you with a series of personalized treatment, which include physiotherapy, sport massage and clinical pilates. Details of each treatment are as following:
- Physiotherapy: We focus on getting to know about your concerns or needs, including pain in specific areas or lack of range of motion in a certain joint. Our physiotherapists will then tailor your program for you on top of the other treatments that we will be providing.
- Sport massage: This treatment is dedicated for those who have very tight postural muscles that leads to body aches. We aim to release your deep muscles and fascia with specific sport massages technique, our Radiofrequency & Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Machine (RF) , and stretching, such that the muscle tightness goes away and help relieve delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS).
- Clinical pilates: Clinical pilates involve stretching, strengthening and balancing with specific equipment and resistance that will help build a strong core, which is essential to all forms of exercises and especially posture realignment. It is a lenient but effective treatment that comes with a lot of different benefits. The choice of movement and intensity will be tailored to the needs and conditions of the client.
All treatment will be conducted on a 1 on 1 basis. At Mobilize Physio, our professionals ensure you get a comprehensive treatment from our team and gain satisfaction after every treatment session.
